| PONTIAC NATIONALS REPORT November 2009 In the first week of November, Steve McPhee and I visited Cootamundra and spent the day with various officialdom with the intention of serving two purposes:
- To touch base, by way of introduction, with council members, club officials and motel managers
- To commence the official process of booking the various function areas and the required associated paperwork.
The 2009 Pontiac Nationals are intended to run in much the same way as the 2007 Nationals with only some minor changes. Help from NSW chapter members will be vital.
The fees for the Nationals have now be confirmed as follows: Car and Driver: $120.00 Extra Car and Driver (on same entry): $50.00 Extra Adult: $50.00 Child: $25.00 Polo Shirt: $30.00
Registration for the event will take place at the Steven Ward Rooms, Wallendoon Street, adjacent to the city Library and opposite the local car wash. Registration will be held on Friday 10 th April from 12:00 til 17:00 We managed to visit the Caravan Park and several motels to check on availability of accommodation and to confirm our intention of taking over the town in Easter 2009. The Caravan Park still has three cabins available from $63.00 per nite. Members who currently have bookings with the Caravan Park need to contact the management and confirm their intentions to stay. The Heritage Motel has no more rooms available. The Bradman Motor Inn still has 15 rooms available from $78.00 per nite. The Southern Comfort Motor Inn has no rooms available. The Cootamundra Gardens Motel still have 5 rooms left from $99.00 per nite. The Wattle Tree Motel still has 18 rooms available from $70.00 per nite. The above information is correct as of the 5 th November 2008. Considerable time was spent at the Cootamundra Ex-Serviceman’s Club with the Promotions Manager. The Auditorium has been booked for Saturday and Sunday nights, along with the use of a projector, table cloths for two nites, child minding facilities, bar staff and a DJ to be provided by the club for the Sunday nite function. We also requested the use of three Play Stations which are currently in the Eating Court to be made available in the Auditorium for the two nights. This has yet to be confirmed. The Duo, ‘Crushed Ice’, have now been booked for the Saturday night entertainment. They will be accommodated at the Cootamundra Gardens Motor Inn for the night of the event. The Caravan Park and each of the Motels visited were requested to provide $50.00 sponsorship. This was unanimously accepted, given the number of bookings so far. The Disabled Riding Association has yet to be approached for help with various Bar B Que’s; viz Friday evening, Monday morning. Application forms for the 2009 Pontiac Nationals should be made available from the next copy of Pontiac Torque. As members we need to be reminded that the current economic environment is capable of showing a downturn in overall motel bookings for Easter 2009 so having an event such as the Pontiac Nationals can only be a good thing for Cootamunndra.
